Organization’s Social Mission
To build a more viable, sustainable and caring urban community by promoting recycling of household resources, assisting vulnerable neighbors regarding those resource needs, and encourage the creative “Reuse” of items to reduce landfill.
Description of Organization
Recycled Treasures Services:
Provide furniture and household items at a low cost to the community. Fill emergency referrals from local social service agencies. Find creative ways to reduce landfill by redoing or remaking donated items, and by recruiting volunteers and artists to produce remade items and art.
Target area:
Hamtramck and Detroit, 48212 zip code, with expansion into Highland Park and other Detroit neighborhoods when possible, targeting low income families and individuals, and new immigrants.
Key Partnership:
Recycled Treasures intends to use its revenue to support the food pantry at Friendship House. It is a member of Hamtramck United Social Services (HUSS), a 30 year old organization of all the agencies that serve Hamtramck. HUSS meets monthly to share information and coordinate services. Recycled Treasures fills emergency referrals from all HUSS agencies. |
