Motor Control Centers
A new motor control center can be set up to monitor each break load for information. This will allow you to evaluate operation efficiency.
Maintenance on Breakers
To be sure that your breakers will operate when needed, have them tested and cleaned at regular intervals.
Metering/Sub metering
Metering and sub metering enable you to see where your utility load is, and enable you to make better decisions on how to improve operations. Electrical information can allow for load shedding – the utility may be willing to pay for the reduction.
Maintenance on Panels
Have panels checked for loose connections either by tightening each connection, or using an infrared scan to find the loose connections that need attention.
Power Cables
Look for power cables which are halogen free. This is incredibly important to do because of how dangerous it is to burn materials containing halogen after disposal. When halogen is burned it releases both dioxins and furans- two chemicals which there has been concern over their increasing presence in soils.
Look for busbars that use recycled raw material as opposed to all primary raw material. Research the latest technology to make sure you’re getting the most energy efficient option to save yourself some money.
Power Distribution
Consider high efficiency transformers, and transformers that run quieter.
Maintenance on Electrical Relays
Relays that have medium or higher voltage should be cleaned and calibrated so that you can rely on their performance.
Automated Controls
Automated controls are beneficial because they are- in fact- automated. This decreases the chance of human error or failure. Facilities that install automated controls tend to save an average savings of 54%. This is huge. Setting up a system to control lights, air conditioning, and other energy consuming machinery can help reduce your bills and footprint on the environment.
Battery Bank Storage
If you want to use solar or wind powered energy to run your building- a battery bank is essential to keeping power in the more inconvenient conditions. However, these can be costly and require a great deal of maintenance. Still, if you want to depend on renewable energy but don’t want to be victim to the changing winds- battery banks are worth the effort with the freedom from the traditional power grid they are able to provide you.
