The evening will include a series of short presentations by Detroit organizers on the historical context of the ’67 Rebellion and our continued fight today against anti-Blackness and othering\, displacement and regional injustices. The program will include guided visioning exercises so that we\, as a community\, can reclaim our hope and vision for Detroit \n  \nReception starts at 5:30 pm followed by panel discussion at 6 pm. This event is free and open to the public. Presented by Detroit Equity Action Lab\, Wayne State University. \n  \nEmpowering Adults as Youth Advocates \nJune 10\, 2017 | 10:00am to 12:30pm \nPresented by the James and Grace Lee Boggs Center to Nurture Community Leadership and the Detroit 67 Project. This interactive discussion serves as a Part 2 and response to the Youth Day event hosted by the Detroit Historical Museum and Boggs Center on February 18\, 2017. Part 2 will center around the events of 1967\, the outcomes of Youth Day\, and a visioning session to equip adults to serve as advocates of young people throughout the city of Detroit. \n  \nThis event is free and open to the public. For more information\, contact Katherine Brown (katherineb@detroithistorical.org; 313-833-1807). \n  \nFamily Pictures: USA Photo Sharing Event \nJune 17 2017 | 10:00am to 2:00pm \n  \nWhat’s your Detroit story? \nAs part of a new television series being filmed for PBS’s WORLD Channel\, Family Pictures: USA will be in Detroit during June and July in partnership with the Detroit 67: Looking Back to Move Forward project. Join us at the Detroit Historical Museum on Saturday\, June 17 from 10 am to 2 pm for their first public photo sharing event. \n  \nGuests are asked to bring a selection of a dozen of their favorite photographs – digital or printed photos – and spend 10-15 minutes with the Family Pictures: USA Production Team telling their Detroit story. Producers are looking for each guest’s take on the Motor City\, its past\, present and future\, as seen through the lens of the family photo album. Photos will be digitized and added to the larger Digital Diaspora Family Reunion archive. \n  \nSessions are first come\, first serve and RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED. Food will be available for purchase throughout the day. \nThrough the Fire Bus Tours \n  \nSunday\, June 25 | 9 am – 12 pm \nSunday\, July 16  | 9 am – 12 pm \n  \nBlack Scroll Network History & Tours and the Detroit Historical Society are pleased to offer a special three-hour bus tour of significant sites related to the unrest in July 1967. The tour will address three essential questions: What happened? How did it happen? What has changed as a result of the 1967 Rebellion? \n  \nBlack Scroll Network History & Tours educator/historian and Association for the Study of African American Life and History Detroit Chapter president Jamon Jordan will take participants through the history that led to the 1967 Rebellion\, visit the most significant sites during the 1967 Rebellion\, and lead a discussion on the legacy of 1967 and how that history affects the present day reality in Detroit. \nThe tour will be aboard an air-conditioned motor coach\, which will depart from and return to the Detroit Historical Museum. The tour is offered twice this summer\, and tickets are $30 per person for Detroit Historical Society members ($40 for guests). Detroit 67:Perspectives \n  \nFor more than two years\, the Detroit Historical Society has convened diverse groups and communities around the effects of a historic crisis with its Detroit 67: Looking Back to Move Forward project. From the hundreds of oral histories in our archive\, the assistance and input of our many partners\, and the latest historical scholarship\, we have developed the Detroit 67: Perspectives exhibition to allow visitors to better understand the events leading up to July 1967\, where we are today\, and connect to efforts moving Detroit forward for the next fifty years. \n  \nOpen through June 18\, 2017 in the Community Gallery!ARISE Detroit – Neighborhoods Rising \n  \nShowcasing the efforts of Detroiters to improve their communities through 10 years of participation in the annual ARISE Detroit! We invite you to take an inspiring walk through the neighborhoods of Detroit! \n  \nNow Open in the Automotive Showplace! \n  \nThe 1913 Bi-Autogo was designed and built with the first V-8 engine in Detroit by James Scripps Booth. At a cost of $25\,000\, this one-of-a-kind experimental model is the world’s first large\, two-wheeled automobile. The automobile weighs 3\,200 pounds and the front end is made of cast aluminum and the rest of sheet aluminum. The side wheels are retractable but must be raised manually. Thank you to Mobsteel for their recent restoration of this vehicle! \n  \nNow Open in the Detroit Artists Showcase! \n  \nIn September 2015\, 1xRUN and the Eastern Market Corporation partnered to develop and implement the Murals In The Market public art project. Detroit’s historic Eastern Market became the center of the city’s public art movement. This inaugural festival invited dozens of world-class local and international artists to create murals that embodied the spirit of Detroit and strengthened the market’s cultural legacy by making it a must-see public art destination. The film opens with Mayor Jerome P. Cavanagh addressing the viewer from his office. He serves as the film’s narrator\, backed by a soundtrack provided by the Detroit Symphony Orchestra under Samuel Benavie\, and series of shots around the city – including views of city highways\, automobile manufacturing\, a diverse population and social activities – that underscore his message. \n  \nRunning Time: 18 minutes (will be shown on a loop). The cost is $40 for Detroit Historical Society members and $50 for guests.
