Strategies that save energy\, protect natural resources\, provide better indoor air quality\, and foster greater resilience are trickling into building codes. Despite this\, the majority of building codes do not yet include proven\, cost-effective\, and beneficial green building measures that are suitable for application everywhere. Presenters in this session will explore the gaps in current building codes\, highlight strategies for spurring more adoptions of green measures\, and empower participants to impact green codes in their communities. \nThe speakers will share how the recently published International Green Construction Code (2018-IgCC) includes strategies ready for immediate adoption. USGBC will highlight how LEED is embracing the IgCC by harmonizing criteria and simplifying certification in jurisdictions that adopt the green building code. Representatives from local government will describe how LEED policies can amplify green building code requirements and lead to greatest impact. Experts will share tips for engaging stakeholders and advocating successfully for complementary green building rating systems and codes in public policy. This session will leave you empowered to make green building codes a reality in many more places. \nLearn more and stay updated on USGBC’s Green Building Codes website. \nObjectives:\n1. Identify opportunities within current traditional building codes that can be addressed via green building measures \n2. Identify connections between LEED v4.1 and the International Green Construction Code (2018-IgCC) and review examples where LEED v4 credits and code align \n3. Review how LEED and green building codes have been incorporated into public policy\, examples include CALGreen/LEED v4 crosswalk\, and provide guidance on how to advocate for similar changes in your area \n4. Impact green building codes in your community leveraging LEED v4 credits primed for adoption – examples include EQ credit Low Emitting Materials \nPricing:\n$10 for all attendees.
