It’s easy to see that Detroit is just buzzing with hidden green restaurants that even I didn’t know about myself until the last few months. Did you know our city is just hopping with organic, vegan and vegetarian eateries?
From bakeries and cafés to fine dining restaurants, the Motor City is on its way toward being a healthier community. Below you’ll find brief descriptions of four great places to eat “green” the next time you’re in Detroit.
The RAW Café
This unique restaurant is located on Woodward Avenue and is one of the many great cafés in the city of Detroit. It’s known for its raw, organic cuisine and juice bar, and has proven to be much more than just a place to stop in for lunch. The RAW Café also offers catering and recipes, and the owner has even written her own book called Taking Every “Bite” Seriously. The next time you’re in Midtown, you’ll want to check this place out!
Avalon Bakery
This bakery is located on Willis Street in Midtown Detroit and is known for its fresh coffee and homemade breads. According to an article from Click On Detroit, the bakery’s vision is “to have a socially conscious, environmentally responsible business in the neighborhood that will help revitalize the city.” The next time you plan on meeting a friend or co-worker for coffee, you may want to stop in at Avalon!
The Rattlesnake Club
This upscale restaurant is located on River Place and offers fine contemporary American cuisine made with seasonal organic and sustainable ingredients. The Rattlesnake is also known for its steaks; it’s the only local restaurant to use Prime Certified Angus Beef. Since the holidays are quickly approaching, you may want to check out their seasonal menus, which can be found on the restaurant’s website.
Golden Gate Café
This quaint café is located on Woodward Avenue within Innate Chiropractic. The café’s main mission is “to provide a vibrant meeting space for the community where people of all different backgrounds can come together and share ideas and visions for a world which we all can enjoy.” The café offers vegan dishes and is known for its varied selection of smoothies, stir-fry, home-baked cookies and pizza. The produce is even purchased fresh from local markets!
