Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Rob Portman (R-OH) yesterday introduced an updated version of their energy efficiency legislation. This new version of Shaheen-Portman incorporates ten separate amendments on issues ranging from energy efficiency data centers to attempts to make commercial buildings more efficient to updates to federal green building standards. In coordination with the re-introduction of Shaheen-Portman, the American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) released a fact sheet showing that the legislation will help create 190,000 net new jobs by 2030.
In conjunction with the re-introduction of Shaheen-Portman, a new poll from the National Association of Manufacturers and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association shows broad bi-partisan support for energy efficiency efforts. 90% of those polled said it is very or somewhat important that Congress include energy efficiency as part of our country’s energy solutions, including 86% of Republicans, 88% of independents and 99% of Democrats. 74% said they support using tax dollars to support efficiency programs that save consumers money.
