AvaSure, LLC is expanding its facility in Plainfield Township with support from the Michigan Strategic Fund, the Michigan Economic Development announced today. The project will generate a total capital investment of $1.9 million and create 110 jobs.
“Michigan’s healthcare industry is growing and recognized across the country, and AvaSure’s decision to expand here underscores Michigan’s business-friendly environment and talented workforce,” said MEDC President and CEO Michael A. Finney. “AvaSure’s investment provides good-paying jobs and a growing career field to Michigan residents for years to come.”
AvaSure, LLC develops, markets and deploys technology and educational tools that support the nursing profession. Its flagship product, AvaSys, is an advanced patient observation and communications platform that allows a nurse to remotely monitor multiple patients in diverse locations. AvaSure plans to expand its existing operations in Plainfield Township, investing up to $1.9 million and creating 110 new technical, clinical and professional jobs. As a result, the company has been awarded a $550,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Plainfield Township has offered support to the project in the form of property tax abatement. For information on employment opportunities with AvaSure, visit http://avasure.com/careers.html.
“We are grateful for this grant from the MEDC, which will help us realize a much-needed expansion of our operations,” said Brad Playford, founder and CEO of AvaSure. “We have experienced explosive growth in the adoption of AvaSys by America’s hospitals. This grant, combined with the assistance we are receiving from Plainfield Township, allows us to fulfill demand and continue to develop our clinical, technological and educational solutions.”
The Right Place, Inc. acted as a single resource for the company, bringing together both local (Plainfield Township) and state resources (MEDC) to streamline the company’s expansion process. This allowed the company to continue concentrating on its business growth plans.
“West Michigan hosts the largest concentration of medical device manufacturers in the State of Michigan,” said Birgit Klohs, President and CEO, The Right Place, Inc. “AvaSure’s decision to expand in West Michigan further strengthens that position and affirms our strategic commitment to continue building a world-class medical device industry in the region.”
The Michigan Business Development Program provides grants, loans and other economic assistance to qualified businesses that make investments or create jobs in Michigan, with preference given to businesses that need additional assistance for deal-closing and for second stage gap financing.
The MSF considers a number of factors in making these awards, including: out-of-state competition, private investment in the project, business diversification opportunities, near-term job creation, wage and benefit levels of the new jobs, and net-positive return to the state. Business retention and retail projects are not eligible for consideration of these incentives.
