The 33rd Annual Metro Detroit Youth Day was held on Wednesday July 15th on Belle Isle. The Metro Detroit Youth day workers and volunteers welcomed 34, 000 children from the Metro Detroit area for a day of fun and education. The event filled day kicked off with an opening ceremony celebrating Metro Detroit Youth Day’s Ed Deeb as well as the rest of the staff, and of course the youth of Detroit.
The annual summer event offered an unlimited amount of free food, games, and booths for the kids to take part in.
Eight colleges from the surrounding areas set up booths to talk to possible future students and to get the youth excited about education and 110 participating students were awarded scholarships by the Michigan Youth Appreciation Foundation!
Genisys Credit Union teamed up with a local artist to create a spectacular and interactive art piece which will be put into the Detroit Institute of Art. The youth, volunteers, and even the Greening Detroit team had a hand in painting the art piece.
Local sports teams also joined in on the fun. The Detroit Lions held a football clinic for all the excited youth who wanted to participate. The Pistons, Sprite, and Detroit Sports 105.1 joined forces and created a Baseball Tournament with music and dancing that got everyone involved.
There were also an array of other activities and games to get involved in, a few of which were boxing, lacrosse, or martial arts. There was even a petting zoo in which children could interact with goats, sheep, and camels.
In addition there were on stage performances from the very talented youth who were participating at the event. Anything from singing or beat boxing or even dancing these kids could put on an amazing show!
All in all the day was a great success thanks to everyone involved. The event really came together because of all of the amazing individuals involved who took the time to plan the event and volunteers who came to make together to ensure the youth of our amazing community had the most rewarding experience.
