Detroit, MI – The Southeast Michigan Sustainable Business Forum (SMSBF), a non-profit organization that exists to promote sustainable business practices, is hosting the first event of its 2016 Member Guest Speaker Series on Wednesday, March 23. The event will be held at Shed 5 in Eastern Market from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and will focus on the next iteration of agriculture and food systems.
Healthy, local agriculture and food systems are vital to achieving sustainability. Profitable practice in this realm, however, remains somewhat elusive. This timely event promises to answer many questions about how local agriculture and food systems will benefit consumers and be profitable for practitioners.
The featured speaker is Ronald Doetch, managing partner at Solutions in the Land, LLC, where he oversees Whole-System Farm Plans for land decision makers. Ron’s talk is titled “Food – The Centerpiece of Social and Environmental Healing.” It will answer questions like “What are the clear solutions for our current food system?” and “How do we implement those solutions?”
Dan Carmody, President of the Eastern Market Corporation, will also speak at the event. Dan will draw on his 30 years’ of experience in place making, local economic development, and local food systems to give an exciting talk. He will also address Eastern Market’s growth and the changes that are occurring in it.
The event is open to the public and will include an opportunity to network with fellow entrepreneurs and others interested in sustainable business practice. Those who want to attend can register online. Members attend free of charge; non-members are charged $25 and those who purchase an annual SMSBF membership for $35 will receive free admission to this and one year’s worth of Member Guest events.
Michael Shesterkin, SMSBF president, is excited about the event and believes it will offer attendees the unique chance to explore and learn more about food systems.
Shesterkin says, “SMSBF continues to organize the relevant and important events our members have come to expect. The Next Iteration of Agriculture and Food Systems is perfectly timed for the start of growing season and we’re excited to have someone such as Ron Doetch sharing his expertise in profitable agriculture and food systems. Of course, having Dan Carmody speak is a treat. Dan spoke at our From the Ground-Up event; we’re sure he’ll be every bit as provocative as he always is!”
