July 11, 2017, Dearborn, Mich. — In late June, Gov. Rick Snyder reappointed Henry Ford College (HFC) alumnus Ronald L. Zupko to the Michigan Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons to a 4-year term.
Zupko, of Brighton, was one of two reappointments by Snyder. Pending senate approval, Zupko and Patrick Dean of DeWitt will each serve a 4-year term expiring June 30, 2021.
The Michigan Board of Real Estate Brokers and Salespersons was created in 1980. Housed within the Michigan Dept. of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA), this 9-member board oversees the licensure and practice of real estate brokers and salespersons in Michigan.
“This board provides good oversight for people in the real estate profession, helping them to go in the right direction with regard to practice and ethics. It also provides great insight for other people in our industry. It’s a good experience; I appreciate knowing and working with people from all over the state,” said Zupko.
A Detroit native, Zupko graduated from Cody High School in Detroit in 1970. He served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist mate during the Vietnam War. Upon being honorably discharged from the Navy as a petty officer second class (E-5), Zupko enrolled in HFC. In 1979, he graduated with an Associate of Science degree in Architecture/Construction Technology (ACT).
Zupko then launched his career as in-house draftsman for Modular Security Systems in Detroit. He became a project manager, overseeing products and installations for commercial and high rise buildings for Acorn Building Components, a Detroit-based window manufacturer. His wife of 31 years, Jan, became a real estate agent and inspired him to go into real estate.
“Real estate’s a different area of architecture. I’m going around showing off nice houses, helping people to buy and sell them,” said Zupko.
Currently, he co-owns Team Zupko in Brighton with his wife. He is also the former president of the Livingston County Association of Realtors.
“I thank Ronald and Patrick for their continued commitment to overseeing the real estate broker and salesperson profession in Michigan,” said Snyder.
