At 2:12 pm on Friday February 23 2018 the Troy Police Department Communications Center received a 911 call from a female who was reporting a male subject on the ground and not breathing in one of the hotels rooms.
Several Troy Police Officers as well as paramedic personnel from Alliance Mobile Health immediately responded. First responders found a deceased male, identified as Ronald Tyrus Ilitch DOB 01/14/1957 (61), laying face up on the floor of the hotel room. It was clear to arriving responders that Mr. Ilitch was deceased, as rigormortis had begun, therefore no resuscitation efforts were made. There were no immediate signs of trauma to the body.
As with any unexpected death, an investigation is underway to determine cause. The Troy Police Investigations Division has a detective assigned to the case and they will work closely with the Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office, who also responded to the scene. An autopsy was completed this morning and confirmed that there was no apparent trauma to the body of Mr. Ilitch. It will take time to determine the results of the toxicology report.
The female caller who reported the death was an acquaintance of Mr. Ilitch and has cooperated with the investigation. Personal use amount of narcotics were found in the hotel room, the majority of which were prescription narcotics.
The Troy Police Department asks that you honor the request of privacy from the Ilitch family during this time of grief.
