Great news! On Friday, November 19, 2010, Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Kathleen MacDonald ruled in our favor, denying Systematic Recycling, the composting facility on Jefferson Avenue in Delray, a temporary restraining order to prevent the city from issuing tickets for violations. A special thank you to the residents and advocates that helped ensure that our public health and quality of life is protected.
Earlier this year, the City of Detroit revoked the zoning grant for Systematic Recycling due to a number of illegal practices that created a nuisance that threaten our community and our health, including the excessively large piles and unbearable odors that violate state law.
This victory is many months in the making and is due to your hard work, determination and love for our community. We must continue working together to hold companies that harm our natural resources and air quality accountable.
