Three business expansions that will generate nearly $5 million in total investment and create 166 jobs around the state have received Michigan Strategic Fund approval for support, the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced today.
“Today’s MSF actions demonstrate our commitment to helping growing companies generate new job opportunities,” MEDC Chief Executive Officer Steve Arwood said. “These investments demonstrate Michigan’s improving economy and the success of our strategy to help companies grow and add jobs here.”
Firstronic, LLC, headquartered in Grand Rapids, is a premier specialty provider of electronic manufacturing services, including turnkey electronic assembly and materials management services, to OEMs in the electronics industry. Firstronic has new opportunities for growth over the next three years and plans to expand its Grand Rapids operations, investing nearly $1.9 million and creating 50 jobs. As a result, the project has been awarded a $200,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant. Michigan was chosen over competing sites in China and Mexico. Knight Transportation Inc., headquartered in Phoenix, is a provider of trucking transportation and logistics services. The company has more than 35 locations throughout the United States and employs more than 5,000 people. The company plans to expand its transportation management and brokerage divisions at its facility in the city of Grand Rapids, investing nearly $574,000 and creating 87 jobs. As a result, the project has been awarded a $300,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.
