Pumps
Pumps are the largest user of electricity, nationally. Other than maintenance issues, a poor performing pump gives very little indication of problems. Often times, multiple pumps run unnecessarily and the added pressure requires extra hp resulting in increased energy usage. Piping issues also affect pump performance. Pipe sizes should be considered when evaluating pump operation.

If you have HID lighting, change to T8s or T5s with bi level switching to save energy, and where it is useful, install timers and motion sensors. Investigate the possibility of replacing 1000 watt HID fixtures with inductive lights. LEDs are cost effective where lamp replacement costs are significant. Reduced lighting energy can qualify for an EPACT 2005 federal tax deduction and a DTE rebate, plus you may earn LEED points.
