Description of Organization

Eckert’s Greenhouse is a family owned and operated greenhouse in southeaster Michigan for over 50 years.

Fiber PotEckert’s Greenhouse and Perennials strives to improve our carbon footprint. We are constantly challenging the industry to make improvements. For example, 90% of our products were planted in recyclable biodegradable containers made out of recycled paper and cardboard. While we recognize the benefits of plastics we are trying to reduce the amount of plastic our industry contributes to landfills. We have gone so far as to manufacture a container that will last a lifetime and avoid the one time use pitfalls.

Other ways we’re improving our carbon footprint:

  • Beneficial bugs
  • New retail beneficial
    • o Vacation – an all natural anti-drought plant treatment
      o Organicas K+Neem – environmentally friendly fungicide
o Actinovate – organic fungicide for lawn and gardens
      o Espoma products
  • Recycling Plastic – Eckert’s will recycle all past purchased plastic containers that customers have previously purchased from the Greenhouse.
  • Electric carts

Eckert’s Greenhouse hosts a annual Earth Day Celebration for area school children to come to the greenhouse and learn why it is all of our responsibilities to take care of our environment and what we can do to help. We also support many different fund-raising efforts for organizations that are making a difference in the lives of area communities. Some of the organizations that we support are: Gilda’s Club, Common Ground and Forgotten Harvest with whom we created a “Seed to Feed” program. The program is designed to get the community involved in helping those less fortunate. A participant comes into Eckert’s Greenhouse, signs up to participate, we give them free vegetable seeds for them to grow and they return a portion of the harvest back to Eckert’s for Forgotten Harvest to distribute to their clients.

We also contribute to many of the area schools fund raising efforts.

At Eckert’s Greenhouse we believe that if we help take care of the community then we are paying it forward!

Eckert’s Greenhouse is proud to introduce the H20 Labor Saver hanging plant container.
