Organization’s Description
Electronic waste is especially difficult to deal with because of the many different materials used in most products. There are several kinds of plastics in common use, for instance, and many different metals. Some of these materials are toxic and a few are known to cause cancer if not properly handled. Once they’re in our landfills, they won’t go away in our lifetime, our children’s lifetime, or even our grand children’s lifetime.
Reuse
We gladly accept donated electronic hardware: computers, cell phones, PDA’s and other personal electronics. We refurbish the hardware and grant computers to schools & charitable organizations in our community who, in turn, benefit others.
Recycle
What we don’t reuse gets recycled to the toughest standard based on the Basel Action Network pledge and e-Steward’s principles. This keeps toxic e-waste chemicals out of our landfills.
Learn
We offer classes and technical support to ensure successful reuse for our computer recipients. Volunteers learn about the inner workings of a computer while they earn hours to receive a free computer.
