The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $461,000 in bridge improvements to M-25 over the Howe Drain in Fort Gratiot. As Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) employees monitor ice falling from the cables and towers, hoping they can reopen to traffic soon, another round of unseasonable weather threatens to coat the bridge in ice once again.
The Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Michigan Freight Plan, a supplement to the 2035 MI Transportation Plan, is being updated to meet new requirements in the most recent federal transportation authorization bill, the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act. The existing freight plan is available for public review on the Michigan Freight Plan website at: www.michigan.gov/freightplan.
The public is invited to send comments on the existing plan via the comment box on the website. The updated plan will be available for review and comment in August, with a public webinar currently scheduled in September. The Public Involvement Plan can be found at the above link.More
Effective 6 a.m. April 4, weight restrictions will be lifted on all state trunkline highways from the southern Michigan border north to and including the Mackinac Bridge. Weight restrictions will still be in effect and will be imposed on all state trunklines in the Upper Peninsula until 6 a.m. April 5, when weight restrictions will be further lifted to include all state trunkline highways from the Mackinac Bridge north to and including US-2 from Iron Mountain to St. Ignace. Frost restrictions will remain in effect and will be enforced on all state trunkline highways north of US-2 and on M-185 on Mackinac Island. State trunkline highways typically carry M, I, or US designations.More
