Italian filmmaker Paolo Zucca will attend the screening of his soccer-themed comedy, “L’arbitro,” at Henry Ford College (HFC) on Saturday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the Andrew A. Mazzara Administrative Services & Conference Center (ASCC), Building L, on the main campus.
“L’arbitro” is part of the 2015 Italian Film Festival USA – taking place in 11 cities across the United States – which opens in Metro Detroit on Wednesday, April 1, at the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). The festival continues throughout the month of April at several college and university campuses in southeastern Michigan, including HFC.
In “L’arbitro” – which Zucca wrote and directed in 2013 – an Italian soccer referee is demoted and exiled to the remote island of Sardinia, where he finds out what it takes to handle a real match. “L’arbitro” was chosen as a pre-opener to the 10th edition of the Critic’s Week Venice Day.
After the screening of “L’arbitro,” moviegoers will have the opportunity to engage Zucca in a Q&A session.
“Zucca’s film will appeal to a wide audience, allowing a great opportunity for students, in particular, to engage in Q&A with an international film director,” said Robert Cascardo, who teaches Italian at HFC.
Additionally, HFC will screen two other films:
· “Anime nere” on Friday, April 10, at 7 p.m. in the ASCC; and
· “La sedia della felicità” on Saturday, April 11, at 5 p.m. in the ASCC.
All the films are shown in Italian with English subtitles.
Admission is free and open to the public. For further information, including a printable screening schedule, trailers, list of sponsors, etc., please visit www.italianfilmfests.org/detroit.html.
