The Community House will present “Green Breeze,” a green living fair, sponsored by The Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers, July 24, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., in downtown Birmingham.
This year’s event will be held in conjunction wit the Birmingham Principal Shopping District’s “Day on the Town” sale event. The Green Breeze event will feature 100 eco friendly vendors who will exhibit everything from fuel efficient autos to green cleaning products to repurposed accessories. Green Breeze will be staged on Old Woodward Avenue between Merrill and Brown and also on Merrill between Old Woodward and Pierce.

Innovation, quality and fuel efficiency define the Ford product line-up the Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers have to offer” said Doug North, President of the Southeast Michigan Ford Dealers. “We encourage consumers to come out and get their first look at the all new 2011 Ford Fiesta as well as see the Fusion Hybrid and take part in Ford’s interactive display.
Green lectures are scheduled throughout the day, at no charge. Lectures will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 241 Merrill (inside the former Waterworks space).
- 9:30 a.m. – 10:15 a.m. Juice Plus: “The Vitamin Scam: Truth or Fiction?”
- 10:30 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. – Four Seasons Garden Center: Discover organic fertilizer, soil amendments and alternative treatments to chemical for the garden
- 11:30a.m. – 12:15 p.m. – Oakland Native Plants, Ruth Vrbensky: Find out the importance of native plants and the environment
- 12:30 p.m. – 1:15 p.m. – SOCWA, SE Oakland Water Authority: Lillian Dean and Candy Sweeney address green gardening with compost for pest and disease prevention and water quality protection
In addition, there will be plenty of free activities for children to explore while improving their green world including Peace Love and Planet, which will be teaching kids how to create flowers out of repurposed plastics, and Handmade Detroit which will be coordinating green crafting activities with the kids.
Green Breeze exhibitors include Burlap Boutique LLC which will be selling stylishly hip and unique bags and pillows from refurbished coffee bean bags. VegMichigan a non-profit vegetarian organization will be promoting health, environmental and ethical benefits of a plant based diet and Green Daffodil Studio will be selling all natural handmade soaps and soy candles.
Siouxsan Miller is co-owner of Green Daffodil Studio, located in Ferndale, MI. This is the second year that Green Daffodil Studio has exhibited at Green Breeze. “The Community House has such a strong presence in our community,” said Siouxsan Miller, “I think it is a great opportunity for them to reach out and help educate people about the environment and to promote simple ways to make lifestyle changes with green products.”
