After months of anticipation, Young Detroit Builders is pleased to announce the sponsors for the 8th Annual Showdown in Motown.
Corporate sponsors are Butzel Long, Comerica Bank, Fifth Third Bank, Flagstar Bank, DTE Energy Foundation and MGM Grand Detroit. They have all made generous contributions of $1,500 or more in support of the Showdown. Detroit’s HOT 102.7 and GreeningDetroit.com are the Showdown in Motown’s media sponsors.
The Showdown features some of Detroit’s diverse musicians, singers, rappers, poets and dancers who will compete for the $1,000 grand prize. Last year’s highlight was a fire hula hooper; this year’s competition includes an opera singer, who’s a student at Central Michigan University and a jazz vocalist, who opened for American Idol winner Ruben Studdard. Celebrity judges select the first-place winner. There will also be second- and third-place winners. The event also serves as the flagship fundraiser for YouthBuild Detroit; a comprehensive program operated by Young Detroit Builders that helps low-income, Detroit youth between ages 18 and 24 learn construction skills, earn their GED and rebuild and repair homes for low-income residents.
Young Detroit Builders is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit charitable organization in its 16thyear providing services to help youth transform their lives while rebuilding their communities. Sponsor support of the Showdown in Motown goes directly to helping disadvantaged young adults pass the GED exam, develop leadership and employability skills and receive on-the-job construction training while performing community service.
The Showdown in Motown will take place Friday, September 23, 7pm at The Majestic Theatre Center, located at 4140 Woodward Avenue in Detroit. Tickets are now on sale for only $10. Tickets can be purchased at The Majestic or at Young Detroit Builders, located at 1627 W. Lafayette Boulevard.
