Multiple residents and city leaders have already expressed concern and now the State has started an investigation into the installation of Smart Meters on homes across the state.
The Michigan Public Service Commission is asking DTE Energy and other utilities to submit information regarding existing plans for the deployment of the meters, any scientific information related to the safety of the smart meters and whether there will be an opt-out program for homeowners.
Homeowners in Rochester Hills and Sterling Heights have been among those who worry the meters will give the utilities too much personal information and emit radiation.
A decision isn’t expected until this spring at the earliest.
