From our most ancient tales to the latest summer blockbusters, mythology continues to inspire and awe humankind. While each culture’s legends are unique, their impact is universal.
On Tue., Jul. 17, Ferndale Public Library will host “The Power of Myth” presented by Detroit Institute of Arts. Dan Piesko, an Emeritus Professor of History at Oakland Community College, will use images from the DIA art collection of African masks, Greek and Roman gods, the story of Adam and Eve and other treasures to illustrate how myths have fulfilled human needs throughout the ages.
This lecture has been made possible by the Ferndale Public Library Arts and Exhibitions Committee which was formed to foster art appreciation within the library setting, and to support Ferndale’s artistic community. This is the first arts lecture to be presented at the library.
“We have such a gem with the DIA, “ says library director Kate Pohjola. “We are thrilled to be able to celebrate such a fantastic resource and share it with our community. We are excited to bring even more art, and discussion about it, inside the library.”
This event is free to the public.
