The Emerging Professionals Committee of the US Green Building Council Detroit Regional Chapter along with Wayne State University are introducing the national Better Block Project to Detroit! Saturday September 22ndand Sunday September 23rd, in conjunction with the Detroit Design Festival, volunteers from the DRC-USGBC and WSU will help reshape a Detroit block near East Grand Boulevard and St Antoine with “complete street” infrastructure.
The aim is to make the chosen block a model of what can happen when sustainable design and placemaking methods are applied to an underserved urban area.
The Emerging Professionals Committee of the DRC is seeking volunteers, food donations and/or vendors, artists and craftspeople, landscape and garden donations to help flip this block! The Better Block project will cover the outdoor spaces of the block southeast of the E Grand and St. Antoine St intersection. Block space will be made available to pop-up businesses (e.g. retail, book swaps, food and non-alcoholic beverage tastings), lecturers, performers, and interactive sessions. Additional information and sign-up for the weekend project are available through http://betterblock.org,www.usgbcdetroit.org and http://betterblockdetroit.tumblr.com/
