Helping to fulfill the dreams of Megan Darr-Soroka, a popular manager at Cheli’s Chili Bar in Detroit, the event contributes to an endowment fund for Michigan State University veterinary students and the Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter (FFDAS).
Celebrating her life and passion for maintaining good health and care for animals, Megan’s Dreams Golf Outing takes place on Friday, June 7, at Dearborn Hills Golf Course, 1300 S. Telegraph Road in Dearborn.
“Detroit Red Wings alumni, including the legendary Chris Chelios, who serves as the event’s honorary chair, will be on hand to help share in the day’s festivities,” comments Tim Keyes, Megan’s Dreams spokesperson. The outing also offers great play for serious and casual golfers alike, with opportunities to win several golfing contests on the course. New in 2013: One lucky golfer will take home a $1,000 cash prize via a special on-course challenge.
Presented by MaryAnn Wright and Bob Sayles, this year’s outing is expected to be the largest to date and is close to sold out. FFDAS Executive Director Elaine Greene shares, “This is an exciting collaboration for us with Megan’s Dreams. We are a natural partnership, raising money for animals and those who care for them. It is an innovative way for both of our organizations to host a fun and successful fundraiser.” The outing features a scramble-style format and still has sponsorship opportunities available. Cost for golf is $125 per player and non-golfers are welcome to join in the dinner activities for only $50 per person.
The day includes:
- 12 noon: Registration, lunch on the patio, silent auction opens
- 1 p.m: Shotgun start, scramble format
- On-the-course stations: Margarita libations, pulled pork BBQ wagon, ice cream cart, relaxation station with mini-massages
- 5 p.m.: Drinks, hors d’oeuvres
- 6 p.m.: Dinner banquet (open to non-golfers for only $50 )
- 6:30 p.m.: Silent auction closes, live auction begins
