Retail Boot Camp Showcase
TechTown’s Retail Boot Camp: Spring 2018 comes to a close with our Showcase Night! Be the first to see the newest small businesses ready to burst onto the retail scene. Check them out in our Showcase Marketplace and find out who will walk away with our $5,000 Kickstart Awards, which will help five new businesses secure their brick-and-mortar locations right here in Detroit!

Detroit Innovation, Entrepreneurship & Civic Engagement Mixer

DukeEngage Detroit is returning to the Motor City for its fifth summer! This event will be an opportunity for Duke alumni in the Detroit area, the DukeEngage 2018 cohort, community partners who make the summer possible and other friends. Rock Your Guac: The TechTown Throw Down

The ultimate guacamole competition is back! Professionals and amateurs will vie for bragging rights and prizes. You’ll be the judge in a People’s Choice decision. $10 gets you all-you-can-eat guacamole and chips and salsa from M Cantina, beer and a complimentary exclusive mini margarita from Tequila Cabresto. All ticket sales go to Alternatives for Girls.

MIT Solveathon

MIT’s Solve initiative, in partnership with General Motors, will be hosting a solveathon focused on refining great ideas from the Detroit community in response to Solve’s Teachers & Educators andWork of the Future challenges. MIT Solve is a marketplace connecting innovators with resources to solve Global Challenges.

Retail Boot Camp is an intensive, eight-week program that prepares serious, Detroit-based entrepreneurs for the opening of their brick-and-mortar retail establishments. In addition to training, RBC provides access to start-up capital, affordable space and ongoing business support.

FUELING INNOVATIVE CROSS-SECTOR COLLABORATION: An Evening with Susannah Fox

Wayne State Industry Innovation Center (Formerly NextEnergy) | 461 Burroughs | Detroit 48202The Lear Corporation and TechTown Detroit are proud to present an evening with Susannah Fox, former Chief Technology Officer of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and Entrepreneur in Residence at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
Susannah will be presenting an informative keynote about innovative thinking in organizations and how we can keep our intake valve open to new ideas and new thinking.
After the keynote, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an interactive workshop designed by Joyce Lee, MD, MPH, where participants will discuss what they’ve learned and identify an approach to innovative thinking that’s unique to each organization’s own culture.

Entrepreneur’s Equity Roadmap Workshop

The Entrepreneur’s Equity Roadmap workshop is for entrepreneurs, founders and executives of new and growing businesses that plan to seek equity funding to finance their business and angel and venture capitalists who want to invest.

After completing this seminar and workshop, you will understand the Entrepreneurs’ Equity Roadmap and how it will benefit your organization. You will also develop an initial pass at a specific set of milestones that make sense for your specific organization.

Presenters:

Stewart Nelson — Serial entrepreneur and angel investor with over 30 years of experience helping startups. Stew is a graduate of the University of Michigan (BA Econ & Sociology) with an MBA from Eastern Michigan.

 Jay Mahler — Jay is a computer technologist and engineer with marketing savvy along with financial modeling and accounting skills. He has B.S.E. and M.S.E. degrees in Industrial Engineering from the University of Michigan.
 

Gary Hazen — Gary has a B.S.E. from the University of Michigan and an MBA from Harvard University and is an expert in corporate development, and financial planning with extensive experience helping start-ups instill disciplines to accelerate growth and profitability.
 

Lanny White — Expert in small business strategy, marketing and administration. Coach, start-up mentor, and ambassador at GLEQ-MiQuest.
