HFC is home to one of the largest music programs with the most number of music ensembles of all two-year colleges in Michigan. The musicians in HFC musical ensembles represent a cross-section of HFC’s student body. Music ensembles from HFC have regularly toured and performed at special events across the country and in Europe.
In fact, the Big Band and Midnight Blue Vocal Jazz ensembles performed at the inaugurations of both President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama. Additionally, HFC musicians have performed at the National Museum of American History for approximately 4,000 attendees. Effective in 2015, HFC launched a new one-year program in Recording Arts featuring a fully functional digital recording studio. Students in the Recording Arts Certificate (RAC) program will gain hands-on experience in a fully functioning recording studio while learning the tools and vocabulary necessary to succeed in a professional recording studio. This program is suited to students who love music, like to make beats, and record but who have never been in band, orchestra, or choir.
For further information about HFC’s Music Program or these concerts, contact HFC music instructor G. Kevin Dewey at 313-845-6474 or kdewey@hfcc.edu.
