Annual Fundraiser for Ferndale Good Fellows

Ferndale’s downtown will again commemorate the day in December 1933 that Congress and President Franklin D Roosevelt passed and signed the 21^st amendment ending prohibition by enjoying legal libation and a taste of history.

Each year for the past decade, Ferndale bars and restaurants observe the anniversary by decorating in the 1930’s period and offering special drink prices. Staff and patrons are encouraged to wear period costumes (gangsters, flappers, rum runners etc.).

The event raises funds for Ferndale Good Fellows who offer assistance to needy families during the holiday season. Off duty police officers work with the fire department and other service organizations as part of Good Fellows to insure each child is warm, sheltered, fed and hopefully have a toy for the holiday. Donations will be collected through “passing the moonshine jug,” raffles, possible cover charges at some venues and through corporate contributions. More

New construction of the state’s second soybean processing plant and storage facility is expected to have a transformational impact on the state’s emergent agribusiness industry and provide exponential growth for Michigan’s top agricultural export.
In support of ZFS Ithaca, LLC’s new soybean processing plant in Ithaca, the Michigan Strategic Fund approved today an agricultural processing renaissance zone, a designation based on resolutions passed by the city of Ithaca, North Star Township and Gratiot County that provide a property tax abatement valued at $14.8 million through 2031. Final approval consideration will now go to the Michigan Administrative Board on December 6. More

A New Breed of Facility Manager

Fundamental trends are shaping the facility management field and the result is a new breed of facility manager keenly focused on embracing technology.

Wendy Dietzler was detailing those trends to EAG’s CEO Scott Ringlein during the recent National Facilities Management and Technology Conference & Exposition in Las Vegas. Deitzler is the Vice President of Education & Conferencing for the Trade Press Media Group, the company hosting the two day event.

As an event speaker, Ringlein provided a presentation on PACE or Property Assessed Clean Energy (see video). During a discussion with Dietzler regarding PACE, they discussed the trends that are shaping the role of the facility manager.

Dietzler noted that the facility management industry is energized due to demographic as well as technological trends. Evidence of the industry’s energy was evidenced by the sheer size and number of attendees and vendors at the two day event.

The demographic trend is a large number of facility managers are now approaching retirement. Those assuming the outgoing manager’s role have “incredible amounts of tribal knowledge which needs to be learned” according to Dietzler. They have been made aware their role is a key component in the overall financial success and productivity of an organization. The incoming managers want to know how they can contribute to that success, and were motivated to learn from the assembled speakers representing those who paved the way before them.
