Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson is giving local businesses, and citizens, two years to green things up.
Patterson will announce the “OakGreen Challenge” this Thursday at the 2nd Annual Oakland County Green Summit, calling for every business, government entity and resident in Oakland County to reduce their energy consumption by 10% by 2012.
This year’s Oakland County Green Summit will focus on the role of the public sector policymakers and facility managers in advancing sustainability. Haris Alibasic, sustainability manager for the City of Grand Rapids, will give the keynote address. Following, a panel of experts from the private, nonprofit and public sectors will speak to attendees. Later, there will be two breakout sessions – one for facilities managers and the other for community policymakers and planners.
The event runs from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Oakland Schools Building, 2111 Pontiac Lake Rd. in Waterford.
Patterson is scheduled to speak at 8:30 a.m.
