After a year of renovation and expansion, the Ferndale Public Library will have its Grand Opening Party Saturday, July 10 at noon, according to a recent press release.
The Ferndale Public Library’s goal is to promote lifelong learning and personal development for diverse audiences by providing collections and services to educate, inform, entertain and enrich.
The new library, which is 21,000 square feet in size, has some new environmentally-friendly features, including geo-thermal heating and cooling and a gray-water recycling system. Other new features that will enhance the quality of life for local residents include a children’s library and 38 public access computers.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony will start the event, and Mayor Craig Covey, Library Board President Ann Warner and Library Director Douglas Raber will give speeches. In addition, the celebration will include music, family activities and food.
Five bands will provide the entertainment of the day. Pete Peltier and Paul Gaughan, The MyDols, The School of Rock, The Pop Project and The High Strung will perform throughout the course of the party.
Activities for adults and children include giveaways, summer reading signup, a reading by author Robin Morris, displays that will feature key elements of the library and more.
All food and beverages will be provided by The Emory, Western Market, Pinwheel Bakery and Brighten Up Desserts.
