So far in the Green Grassroots Blog, we’ve talked a lot about the importance of purchasing local products, especially produce. My goal at present is to starting writing more about the specific places in metro Detroit where you can buy those local items, and Dobrasevic Food Company fits that description perfectly.
Dobrasevic offers a unique approach to the purchasing of produce. In 2009, founder Stevan Dobrasevic enlisted a few family members and put them to work to start a new business that would support local farming.
The goal at Dobrasevic is to provide consumers with the freshest produce possible. The company believes the best way to do this is by delivering that produce to the doorsteps of hard-working metro Detroiters at no extra cost.
They believe the community deserves something crisper, cleaner and more affordable than what the average grocery store provides.
Supporting local farming is something that Dobrasevic does that supports not only the local economy but also the environment because it cuts down on the gas needed for transportation.
Dobrasevic, with partners such as Kutchey Family Farms in Macomb, Verellen Orchards in Romeo and Del Bene Produce in Detroit, strives to provide the best quality produce money can buy.
The company offers two different packages for purchasing. The first is a small package, which is ideal for busy families, senior citizens and single professionals. It includes just the right amount of fruits and vegetables so that nothing gets wasted.
The second package is a larger one that is ideal for larger families, and it includes enough fresh produce to cook for a family of four or five people. Both packages include recipes and nutritional information.
