(DOBRASEVIC FOOD COMPANY, October 25, 2010) Troy, MI – Dobrasevic Food Company (DFC) is launching their new Dirt-to-Door in Under 24 campaign. Known for delivering fresh, local produce, DFC is now delivering this produce within 24 hours of being harvested at local farms. The campaign will aim to highlight DFC’s close relationships with local farms and commitment to providing the freshest produce possible.
Donna Webb, DFC Vice President states that, “We never store produce in a warehouse. Ever. Each delivery day we start with a trip to our local growers and end with boxes of produce delivered to our customers. We spent a long time hand-selecting small family farms to partner with. It’s these relationships that allow us to be able to provide the best produce available in Michigan at that exact moment.” Webb also says that, “We encourage people to think about the history of their food and where it came from. With us, you know with utmost certainty where your food came from, how it was grown and how old it is.”
Joe Kutchey of Kutchey Farms has been partnered with DFC for two years. He shares their same passion for fresh produce. “I don’t pick green tomatoes. Everything is vine ripened. Most everything we sell is picked every morning”, states Joe. To Joe, the main advantage to getting produce from DFC is, “The grocery stores buy from warehouses where your produce could be 3-5 days old. Dobrasevic Food Company gets theirs the same day it was picked and out to your home within 24 hours.” Buying local is important to Joe because, “What we’re offering is a better product. Buying imported produce always has uncertainty as to how it was grown. When you buy local, you deal with the people who tended to it through the entire growing process.”
Bill Verellen, third generation owner of Verellen Orchards and DFC partner, is a big supporter of buying produce locally. For Bill, “It is the most important thing. Almost all of our business is local. We know many of our customers by name.” In regards to Verellen’s relationship with DFC he states, “They get the best stuff available on that day. They know exactly when the produce was picked. We like supplying them with produce that they know is of the best quality.”
Long-time customer, Janet Callahan, says that having produce delivered, “makes it a lot easier to eat healthy. There is always something around that is good to eat.” Her family of three has found that having fresh produce so readily available has broadened their culinary horizons. “Squash was something we never thought of buying. Now we like it prepared several ways.” As well as noticing a savings over shopping at a traditional grocery chain, Janet also noticed, “Grocery store produce was hit and miss with longevity. With DFC, everything is fresh and lasts a lot longer.”
About Dobrasevic Food Company (DFC) DFC is a produce delivery service. They will deliver locally grown produce to your door on a weekly or bi-weekly basis for no extra charge. They noticed a limited availability for fresh produce in the Detroit area. They handpicked small local farms within a 25 mile radius to form a close partnership with. It’s this close relationship that allows them to check on crop conditions, availability and make last minute changes to deliver the freshest produce available at that exact moment. Their goal is to supply their customers with as much in-season Michigan produce as possible.
