D-Movement event – The mission is to bring students and professionals together in collaboration for a better Detroit, both culturally and economically.
The D-Movement will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. at Schoolcraft College, in the VisTaTech Auditorium, 18600 Haggerty Road, Livonia, MI.
Detroit is revitalizing, and there are both small and large organizations helping to make it a Pittsburgh-like success. In regards to small groups, we do it because it doesn’t take a lot of our time to give back to the city. Individually, we are small catalysts hoping to make a huge impact. However, together, we believe we can do a better job encouraging others to participate in these groups or create one of their own… and they don’t have to live in Detroit to do it. This is why we are hosting the D-Movement event at Schoolcraft College’s VisTaTech Auditorium. This is the time for us to break the misconception that you have to live in Detroit to be part of Detroit. Our message is that you don’t.
Presenting will be Andrew Humphrey, the Emmy award winning meteorologist of WDIV as our master of ceremonies for this TEDx-style event. Seven Detroit groups will showcase their roles in helping to forge a better Detroit, including: D-NewTech, I AmYoung Detroit, Detroit SOUP, MobileMonday.Det, Joomla Detroit, The Sugar People and SE Michigan Start Up.
We are meeting at the VisTaTech Auditorium because we wanted a venue that would be inviting to students & professionals (who are reinventing their skills) in a community outside of Detroit to encourage them to do more in the city. Additionally, Schoolcraft College is allowing us to use the VisTaTech Auditorium at no charge, and the SCC Computer Graphics Technology students are designing a website and marketing materials as a practical applications project.
Early Registration: Students are free & Non-students are $5.00 Registering at the Door: Students & Non-students are $10. Please go to http://www.dmovement.com for early online registration.
We are seeking sponsors to help with extra expenses (website domain, EventBrite registration, food/refreshments). We currently have half-a-dozen sponsors at the $100 level, but we need more. All sponsors will be promoted on the event website and in the program. They may also have a booth at the event and receive 2 complimentary tickets. If you know of anyone who might be interested in sponsoring this event, please have them contact Elizabeth T. Lawrence @ 866-611-6665 ext: 4.
