The U.S. Department of Energy Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE) is developing Workforce Guidelines for Home Energy Upgrades, a comprehensive set of Standard Work Specifications (work quality specs), Job Task Analyses, and Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (workforce competencies) applicable to energy upgrades of single family homes.
To further this effort, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), on behalf of EERE, is building a strong national framework for workforce certification based on the guidelines, as well as a process for regularly updating the technical sections of the Standard Work Specifications.
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) is seeking experienced weatherization and home performance practitioners, trainers, and industry technical experts to serve on four certification scheme committees to develop the blueprints and general requirements for high-quality workforce certifications. We are accepting nominations for people who have experience in any of the following positions:
- Installer/technician
- Crew leader
- Auditor
- Inspector/quality control
NREL is also seeking nominations for individuals with strong building science credentials to serve on two technical committees to ensure a fair and transparent process for continuous improvement of the Standard Work Specifications.
- Standard Work Specification maintenance committee
- Standard Work Specification appeals committee
NREL invites you to nominate your colleagues for the certification scheme committees or the SWS technical committees. For more information about the guidelines and their accompanying certification, please contact Dr. Richard Knaub at NREL.
Thank you for your time and commitment to this industry.
