The Michigan Electric Auto Association, Schoolcraft College, and the Clean Energy Coalition announce the 3rd Annual Electric Vehicle Show and Rally, to b held from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., June 11, 2011, at Schoolcarft College, 18600 Haggerty Road, Livonia, Michigan.
Last year’s event drew over a thousand people and 35 EVs, including a Chevy Colt, a Tesla Roadster, a Ford plug in hybrid, a Think, two Wheegos, and a 1916 Detroit Electric, as well as a broad variety of conversion EVs, scooters and bikes, and EV1-era OEM production electric vehicles. The most popular segment of the show last year was the Sportscar Club of America sponsored EV Solo Autocross, where EV drivers raced around a closed course and competed against the clock for trophies.
The event is free again this year, and show organizers expect a much bigger crowd, with 50+ EVs of all kinds, including Chevy Volts, a Tesla or two, a Nissan Leaf, Ford PHEV, GM Fuel Cell, Smartcar, Think, and Wheego – along with production scooters, unique EV conversions, motorcycles, and drag racing tractors plus older production OEM EVs, a Citicar, and of course the classy 1916 Detroit Electric. Twenty exhibitors will show off their EV related equipment and services and experts will give several presentations discussing EV infrastructure and services, and the political, economic and environmental impact of EVs. Twenty five EVs will compete in the Solo Autocross. Schoolcraft College will also show off their four new Coulomb Charging Stations.
As a Ride and Drive event, the public should come prepared to take test rides and drives around the Schoolcraft campus. Last year the Tesla ride was the most popular.
At 11:00 a.m. we have invited Senator Debbie Stabenow, a promoter of EV and EV component manufacturing in Michigan, to say a few words and then, in a made-in-Michigan Chevy Volt, lead the parade of EVs around the Autocross course as the crowd gathers to watch this year’s race, which will begin at noon.
“Our EV show is the only event in the Midwest where all in one place, the public can learn about all kinds of electric vehicles, talk to people who own and drive EVs, take test rides and drives in a broad range of EVs and watch EVs complete in an exciting Solo Autocross race,” says Larry Tuttle, president of the Michigan Electric Auto Association.
