LocalMotionGreen Hosts 5th Annual Earth Day Fair on Saturday, April 30 from 10am to 4pm at Richard Lot, 36 Kercheval, Grosse Pointe Farms presents local businesses and organizations promoting healthy and environmentally-responsible daily living to the community. “Adding a new dimension to the fair this year is live music. We are very pleased to host environmental singer and songwriter Joe Reilly and Detroit Music Award winner Jill Jack, as well as local science teacher and singer Russ Glenn.” said Robin Heller, Executive Director of LocalMotionGreen.
New exhibitors and retailers provide new earth-friendly products and services for our attendees, such as home energy assessments, solar panel installations, jewelry from recycled materials, upcycled and organic clothing, and gardening goods such as compost tumblers and rain barrels. The workshops and talks explain how to bring green practices into your home and garden.
Students from the University of Michigan – Dearborn’s Student Environmental Association will run most of the children’s activities. They bring fun, green activities and crafts such as making your own watercolor paint and making paper mache from dryer lint!
New eateries have joined the Green Café including raw food restaurant Cacao Tree and gluten-free café Greengo’s. Get a close up look at a Chevy Volt, a Ford Fusion Hybrid, and DTE’s Ford Escape Plug-In Program vehicle. Licensed adults may test ride electric bicycles compliments of Amp Bros Electric Cycles.
A little advance planning can increase your enjoyment – bring toys for heavy metal testing (free), documents for shredding (nominal fee), and unwanted electronics for recycling (sliding scale fee). Healthy Body Activities include chair massages, free mini-makeovers, and free mini-manicures. Vendors will also sell handcrafted natural bath/ body care and household cleaners. Participants can learn how to protect local watersheds, garden without pesticides, get clothes dry-cleaned without any chemicals, and much more.
Activities and displays will be located in the parking lot off Kercheval between Richard Elementary School, McKinley Road and McMillan Road on “the Hill” in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, 48236. Electronics recycling and document shredding will be in the McMillan circular drive in front of Richard Elementary School. Special thanks to the city of Grosse Pointe Farms, an event partner.
