The busy holiday season is also a peak time of year in which families choose to bring new pet family members into their homes. To help encourage prospective pet owners to consider adopting a homeless animal, the Dearborn Animal Shelter is offering reduced adoption fees this Friday and Saturday for cats and kittens.
In this two day window, cat adoption fees will be reduced to $5 per cat (4 months and older) and kittens will be $40 for the first kitten and only $10 more to add a second kitten.
Elaine Greene, Executive Director, Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter said, “The cat and kitten population in the Shelter has remained much higher than usual this year and we are seeking every possible option to match them with loving homes.” The Shelter’s local endeavor this weekend is also part of a nationwide effort to help encourage homeless cat adoptions this time of year. It is in conjunction with the Best Friends Animal Society and features $5 felines. The reduced kitten special is a local addition. Greene continued, “Kittens are great playmates for one another, so we hope to encourage people to consider a pair this weekend. Besides, they’re small, take two, please.”
The two- day event takes place with extended hours this Friday, December 2nd from 4pm-8pm and Saturday, December 3rd from 12noon -8pm. at the Friends Training Center, 2621 Telegraph Road (next to Pet Supplies Plus). All adoption fees include sterilization, microchip and age appropriate vaccinations.
