WARM Training Center is excited to announce the first annual WARMing Detroit event on Saturday, December 17th, at the Mexican mercado. WARMing Detroit is an opportunity for low income families to receive handmade wooden toys for the holidays, energy education, and ign up for a free home energy visit that includes energy saving materials.
Felix Rosado, resident artist at WARM’s green jobs training program is leading a project to create 200 handmade toys for the holidays. Brooks Lumber has donated some of the lumber, and production is well underway. Now we need your help in two ways:
- Help us create the toys: We are making toys every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at our Green Jobs Training Center, 2715 Bagley at the corner of Bagley and St. Anne. We need people to help sand, assemble and paint the toys. If these times do not work for your group, we would be happy to schedule another time. Please call Alicia Romero @ 313-638-1492 or email her at aromero@warmtraining.org to schedule your volunteer time.
- Donate to help us purchase supplies: If you cannot join us to create the toys, you can make a tax deductible contribution to WARM Training Center to hlep us purchase additional lumber, paint and other materials. You can visit www.warmtraining.org/join/donation or send a check to WARM Training Center, 4835 Michigan Avenue, Detroit, MI 48210.
As you may know, Michigan’s low income fund for energy assistance and efficiency programs has been eliminated this winter. WARM is doing everything we can to hlep families cope with this funding crisis, and WARMing Detroit will empower them with low and no cost ways to reduce energy bills.
Thank you for all you do in our community and I hope you will join us to make WARMing Detroit a success. For more information contact Alicia Miller at 313-894-1030 x 122 or amiller@warmtraining.org
