The holidays are delivering mixed experiences at the Dearborn Animal Shelter this year. Following a successful cat and kitten adoption event at the beginning of the month, the subsequent 10 days brought in an overflow of homeless animals.
Receiving double the average number of dogs and triple the average number of cats, the Shelter is suddenly over-crowded anew. To help find homes for the high number of cats, the Shelter is offering a $5 cat adoption fee this Friday and Saturday only.
Elaine Greene, Executive Director, Friends For the Dearborn Animal Shelter said, “The stream of animals is hard to comprehend. We saw some relief, through our adoption event, from the overflowing situation last month and then a floodgate opened and more animals came pouring in. Cats are the highest population right now, so they are the focus of this adoption special. Some of the dogs are not yet ready for adoption, though they soon will be”.
The two- day event takes place at the Shelter this Friday, December 16th from 9am-5pm and Saturday, December 17th rd from 9am-4pm. Adoption fees include sterilization, microchip and age appropriate vaccinations.
