In the U.S. alone there are 104 nuclear reactors in operation and 4-6 scheduled to come on line by 2020.
With VC Summer and Vogtle well in progress and a number of uprates and decommissioning projects underway, there are $billions worth of contracts available to suppliers who are at the top of their game.
However now more than ever utilities and top contractors need to ensure that they have well-designed economic plants, a stable regulatory regime, risk sharing amongst all project stakeholders and strong project management capabilities. This cannot be done without the co-operation of the supply chain who can work with owners to establish efficient processes in the planning, workforce development, supply chain management, procurement engineering, and operation stages of their projects.
For these reasons, key utility representatives from TVA, Exelon, Constellation Energy, Progress Energy and the Department of Energy will be meeting top contractors including Shaw Power Group, CH2M Hill Plateau Remediation, Westinghouse, AREVA, URS and Fluor at Nuclear Energy Insider’s 3rd Annual Nuclear Supply Chain Conference to discuss ways of effectively managing their current and future supply chains to drive costs down and mitigate risks to ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.
To facilitate the discussions, expert companies also participating include Day & Zimmermann NPS, Global Quality Assurance, Longenecker & Associations and Deloitte to add focus on key challenges including:
• Mitigating counterfeit and fraudulent materials
• Equipment Obsolescence
• NQA-1 and Commercial Grade Dedication
• Working within international frameworks
• Developing a future skilled workforce
With all the key industry players already committed to meet and an overwhelming support from top executives including the Director of the Division of Construction Inspection and Operational Programs from the U.S Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the President and Chief Operating Officer from Shaw Power Group, this meeting is a great opportunity for owners to learn lessons in order to exceed expectations on their current projects and for suppliers to get themselves at the forefront of this $multi-billion industry.
