For communities to get nonpoint source implementation grants, the geographic area must be covered by a watershed plan that’s been approved by the DEQ. To qualify for 2013 funding, areas without approved plans must submit them by February 27. The grants are expected to be available in July.
A map of approved plans is at:

It is anticipated that the Fiscal Year (FY) 2013 Nonpoint Source (NPS) Program Request for Proposals (RFP) will include up to $4 million in State and federal funding for nonpoint source projects. Actual amounts will be determined through the State and federal budget processes. The application and award process will be similar to previous years (FY12 RFP available here). We strongly suggest that applicants consult with NPS staff regarding all project ideas.
To be eligible for implementation funding watershed management plans not previously approved as meeting federal criteria must be submitted by February 27, 2012 and approved by the release of the RFP (late July 2012). Watershed plan submittals must consist of a complete draft final document (including all maps, figures, tables and appendices) and be accompanied by a checklist indicating where and how the applicant believes the plan meets each of the federal nine elements. Partial submissions will not be considered to have met the deadline.
A draft schedule, draft priorities, and a draft list of NPS targeted water bodies for FY13 funding will be released during the spring of 2012 along with other information regarding NPS funding. www.michigan.gov/nps
