Two of Michigan’s leading energy experts will be in Rochester to offer information and advice on renewable energy systems at a free public presentations at the Rochester Hills Public Library on Monday, April 23rd.
John Sarver, Executive Director of the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Association, will present on wind and solar energy systems, at 3pm and 5pm. Larry Kaufman, popular energy expert for DTE Energy, will offer his personal experience with geothermal heating/cooling systems at 7pm. The public is welcome to attend any or all of these free seminars. Space is limited and reservations encouraged. On-line registration is available at the MGT’s Event Calendar: www.migreenteam.com/greenevents.
Introduction to Solar Electric Systems (5pm): This presentation is an introduction to photovoltaic (PV) systems and is designed to provide an overview to persons interested in solar energy and persons considering the purchase of a PV system for their home or business. The session will include the benefits and economics of solar energy, a review of PV technology, proper siting of a PV system, and financial and technical resources that can be helpful.
Geothermal Heat Pumps- Savings from the Ground Up (7pm): Stop complaining about high utility bills and do something about it. Geothermal heat pumps are the most energy efficient heating and cooling systems on the planet. About 5 times more efficient than a gas or propane furnace. About twice the efficiency as a centrail air conditioner. I have had a geothermal system for over 12 years and my heating and cooling bills have averaged under $60 a month for a 2700 square foot house. Learn if geothermal is right for you.
John Sarver became Executive Director of the Great Lakes Renewable Energy Assoc. on March 1 of this year. Previously he worked for the Michigan Energy Office for 35 years where he was responsible for industrial, commercial, and residential energy efficiency programs, and efforts to promote solar and wind energy. John chairs the Michigan Wind Working Group and has a small PV system installed on his roof. He has a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Michigan.
Larry Kaufman works for DTE as its energy expert, and is considered one of the leading energy experts in the state. In that capacity he does over 50 speeches a year, and appears on radio and television. He was invited by two governors to be on “blue ribbon” energy panels to develop Michigan’s building codes.
