Three senior students from the department of Landscape Architecture from Purdue University are working on their capstone project here in Detroit. They wanted to focus on an urban revitalization project, and they have decided to look at the area east of downtown Detroit.
The area was previously used for manufacturing and has some pubs and restaurants among other businesses. However, the area was slated to be the location of a few casinos whose locations were later moved to downtown. Due to this change, the area has become underdeveloped and a blight to the downtown region.
They have been doing research on the area and finding out what kind of developments will benefit the residents in the biggest way. The other part of the development is taking advantage of the riverfront and making a connection between the city and its waterfront.
The final product will include an analysis of the site, an overall phased master plan, and further design development of key areas in the masterplan. Any comments or questions are welcomed and contact information for the students is below.
