Put on your walking shoes and join Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano and hundreds of others, 8 a.m. this Saturday, April 28, at Nankin Mills in Hines Park for the 42nd annual March of Dimes’ March for Babies.
The next day, Sunday, April 29, a second March for Babies takes place on Wayne State University’s campus, 5045 Anthony Wayne Drive. The event starts at 8 a.m.
Wayne County participants will raise $880,000 for this year’s walk. The money goes to support programs that improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births and infant mortality. For the second time in as many years, premature births have declined. That’s the first time in 30 years premature births have declined in back-to-back years. Everyone’s efforts are paying off.
This will be County Executive Ficano’s fifteenth March for Babies walk.
“As adults have a responsibility to offer a better quality of life to the younger generations,” said Ficano, “that’s what this walk and the March of Dimes is all about in my mind. Wayne County is proud to be a part of this organization and I am proud to be walking.”
Ficano and Wayne County employees have made the walks an annual tradition to support the annual March of Dimes events, and will show their team solidarity at the walks by wearing blue. They also coordinate creative, special in-house events throughout the year in support of the organization.
