On Thursday evening, May 17, 2012 at the Book Cadillac Hotel in Detroit, Michigan, the ULI Michigan honored Sidney Forbes with its Lifetime Achievement Award for advancing hallmark property development in the real estate industry.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was developed to recognize those who have made a positive impact on the vibrancy and quality of life in Michigan through the use of land. Proceeds from the evening’s event support the mission of the ULI Michigan district council, which provides educational events, scholarships opportunities and wonderful programming to both professionals and students alike pursuing careers in the real estate industry.
There were over 400 individuals from all walks of life at the awards dinner to honor Mr. Forbes. Mark LoPatin and Robert Taubman, local developers and longtime friends of Mr. Forbes, served as this year’s event Co-Chairmen and additional remarks were provided by William Watch, current Chairman of the ULI Michigan District Council of the Urban Land Institute. The most poignant moment came when Nate Forbes, son and Managing Partner of The Forbes Company, took to the podium and lauded his father to the sold-out crowd. It was nice to see that not only is Sidney Forbes successful as a business person, but also as a family man.
The attendees enjoyed watching a short video of Mr. Forbes’ professional life. Without any formal training in real estate development, Sidney Forbes learned his skills “on the job” and rose up to be one of the most successful mall developers in the Midwest. The video also featured some of the most prominent names in the retail world extolling the virtues of working with Mr. Forbes, including the CEO’s of Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Mr. Forbes is also very involved in the community. He and his wife have recently established the Madeline and Sydney Forbes Family Orthopedic Center at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. They also support the Detroit Institute of Art, Detroit Symphony, the College for Creative Studies and a host of other local charities.
For his commitment to real estate excellence and continuing devotion to his community, hearty congratulations to Mr. Sidney Forbes on earning the ULI Lifetime Achievement Award.
