The 4th Annual Michigan Electric Vehicle Show was held at Schoolcraft College on Saturday, June 9, 2012, and saw the participation of over 65 vehicles, over 20 commercial exhibitors, and an estimated 2,000 visitors. Approximately 175 attendees took advantage of the opportunity to ride or drive an electric vehicle around the campus.
Partners with Schoolcraft include the Michigan chapter of the Electric Auto Association and Clean Energy Coalition. Ford Motor Company, General Motors, Fisker of Detroit, Consumers Energy, DTE Energy, AMP Brothers, and Enginer Inc. were among those companies that also provided vehicles for the public to view.
New to this year’s event were area auto dealerships who brought electric vehicles onsite for display and ride and drive opportunities. Dealerships included Suburban Nissan of Troy, Suburban Toyota Scion, Moran Mitsubishi and Livonia Mitsubishi.
In addition to those listed, the show also enjoyed educational participants. Bowling Green State University’s Electric Vehicle Institute exhibited two EV Grand Prix Racers from their battery electric student project. William D. Ford Career-Technical Center displayed hydrogen fuel cell electric prototype vehicles. Wayne State University was represented onsite with their EcoCar2 Team’s display hosted by students. Macomb Community College exhibited info regarding CAAT (Center for Advanced Automotive Technology) program and hosted an indoor presentation entitled EV/HEV/PHEV User Operation and Safety Workshop.
Three categories of awards were chosen and the winners are:
“President’s Choice” – 2012 Ford C-MAX: awarded by President of Schoolcraft College, Dr. Conway Jeffress, to Amy Machesney on behalf of Ford
“Mayor’s Choice” – 2012 Fisker Karma: awarded by Jack Kirksey, Mayor of Livonia, to Matthew Vazana on behalf of Fisker Detroit
“People’s Choice” – 2011 Porsche Boxter: tallied by onsite attendee voting & awarded to owner, Norbert Kedzierski of Rochester Hills, MI
