The U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Afforadable Care Act (ACA) today with a 5-4 ruling opinion led by Chief Justice John Roberts.
The new healthcare reform plan stands to affect as may as 30 million Americans nationwide with improved benefits such as, cheaper prescription drugs for people with Medicare, a number of free preventive care services, no more lifetime limits on care and insurance coverage for those with pre-existing health conditions.ACA is thought to be the biggest expansion of coverage in nearly four decades.
Wayne County Executive Robert Ficano issued the following statement immediately after the announcement: “I applaud the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold and preserve the core and constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act. This law not only expands service coverage but also makes healthcare more affordable and accessible to all Americans, impacting countless families in Michigan and our local region.”
There are approximately 400,000 uninsured residents in Wayne County who may be eligible to receive health services and insurance coveraget under provisions of the Act.
