Voice your support for the Detroit Urban Agricultural Ordiance.
As you know, the effort to grow jobs in Detroit through urban agriculture, aquaculture, and business development and land repurposing has been our focus over the last three years. It is an effort that we could not have undertaken without your incredible support and assistance.
Now, we need your help again, as we move a step closer to success. The City Planning Commission has set 3 dates for community meetings to discuss the proposed Urban Agriculture Ordinance, and we need the full support of our Leadership Task Force and allies.
As we work to secure land in Detroit for large-scale projects such as agricultural renewal and job production, you can tell the Detroit City Planning Commission how vital this ordinance is to making these initiatives happen.
The meeting dates are set for Wednesday, September 19, Monday, September 24, and Tuesday, September 25.
To quote the Wall Street Journal: Detroit has more than 200,000 vacant parcels—almost half of them residential plots—that generate no significant tax revenue and would cost more to maintain than the city can afford. Finding new uses for this land has become one of the most pressing challenges for a city that lost a quarter of its population in the past decade.
For RecoveryPark, our vision has always about getting land in use and people back to work; the ordinance is a critical step to making that happen.
