The Environmental Management Association (EMA) (emaweb.org) has selected the finalists for its annual Environmental Achievement Award.
The review committee has chosen the following trio as finalists for the 2012 award:
- Algal Scientific Corp, a biotechnology company located in Plymouth, Michigan, that has developed a process to turn algae to be used as a food supplement for livestock.
- Southern Macomb Disposal Authority (SMDA)for its innovative use of phytoremediation to help remedy leachate removal and remediate two landfills along the Red Run Drain in the Clinton River Basin resulting in a now park-like setting with advanced drainage.
- O’Brien Construction Company for its forward-thinking “green” headquarters located in Troy featuring geothermal heating and cooling, dual use hot water heater, rain and garden swale, energy recovery unit, building shell and insulation properties, site selection qualities and other advances.
The EMA’s annual Environmental Achievement Award even is being held on Thursday, April 18th, 2013 at the Detroit Athletic Club, 241 Madison, Detroit 48226. The evening festivities will begin at 5:00 p.m. and conclude at 9:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased online by visiting www.emaweb.org.

In 2012, Hydrodec North America LLC received the Environmental Achievement Award. Previous winners include Ford Motor Company, BASF, Vesco Oil, Infichem Polymers, PPG Industries, Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy, Tartan Energy Systems and Federal Mogul Corp.
