The Community House will present “Farm to Table Strolling Block Party,” promoting Grow/Buy Local Michigan, September 7, 4:00 to 8:00pm, at The Community House, 380 South Bates Street Birmingham.
All of the streets surrounding The Community House will be blocked off. In the event of rain, the party will move inside The Community House. Proceeds will support TCH iCount™/Kids Count Wellness and Feed Your Family’s Future Outreach Programs.
The “Farm to Table Strolling Block Party” will feature tastings from chefs representing well-known area restaurants from Oakland and Wayne counties who will exclusively use Michigan grown ingredients in their food tastings. Michigan vendors will sell the best of Michigan farm fresh agricultural produce, cheese, meat, baked goods, jams and other edible products. Local breweries, wineries and distilleries will also be on hand to conduct tastings. Children will enjoy kids’ activities including animal balloon sculptures and glitter tattoos. The event is co-chaired by Robb and Kate Harper.
Participating Restaurants and Caterers include: Northern Lakes Seafood Restaurant; Gastronomy; Toasted Oak; The Fox Grill; The Forest Grill; The Root; Be Well Lifestyle Centers Café; Amici’s Gourmet Pizza; Commonwealth Café; Peabody’s; Cacao Tree Café; Sahara; Loya Organic; John Cowley & Sons; Lafayette Market; Canapé Cart; Dorsey Culinary Academy; Schoolcraft College; Epoch Catering; 2 Unique Caterers; and The Community House Caterers.
Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales (Dexter) and Northern Peak Brewing Company (Traverse City) will present beers for tastings. Michigan Wines will be available from Verterra Winery (Leland) and Good Harbor Vineyards (Lake Leelanau). In addition, Journeyman Distillery of Three Oaks, Michigan will provide tastings of their hand-crafted organic whiskey and spirits.

“Feed Your Family’s Future” is a partnership with several area nonprofit agencies that have Headstart programs. For four consecutive Saturdays in January and February, TCH will hold family mentoring workshops on the topics of: Family Budgeting & Financial Literacy; Employment & Job Skills; Family Exercise & Nutrition; Coping with Stress. Physical Fitness workshops will be led by TCH wellness trainers; and free childcare will be provided during the workshops at TCH’s Early Childhood Center.
TCH iCount™/Kids Count Wellness exercise and nutrition program focuses on serving at risk teens in Detroit and Pontiac nonprofit agencies. Over the summer, 375 teenagers participated in 10 weekly sessions of instruction with the goal of reaching 10,000 steps a day – or step equivalents. Each session included a physical activity as well as nutrition and healthy eating sessions.
The Community House is a nonprofit that helps strengthen communities by providing educational, cultural and wellness programs, & scholarships to improve people’s personal and professional lives.
