NOAA’s Restoration Center announces a federal funding opportunity (FFO) for habitat restoration in U.S. Great Lakes Areas of Concern. The FFO is available at www.grants.gov, funding number NOAA-NMFS-HCPO-2014-2003974 (“NOAA Great Lakes Habitat Restoration Program Project Grants under the U.S. Great Lakes Restoration Initiative in Areas of Concern”). The closing date is February 26, 2014.
Through this solicitation, NOAA seeks to openly compete funding available for habitat restoration in U.S. Great Lakes Areas of Concern with funds provided by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative as anticipated in the President’s FY2014 Budget.
NOAA anticipates up to $4 million may be available for habitat restoration; typical awards for on the ground implementation are expected to range between $500,000 and $3 million. NOAA will also accept proposals for engineering and design of habitat restoration projects; typical awards are expected to range between $75,000 and $350,000.
New this year: This year the solicitation has no limit on the number of proposals for on the ground implementation per Area of Concern (but each proposal must include an endorsement letter from a RAP implementation group).
As per previous years only two proposals per Area of Concern will be accepted for engineering and design projects. In cases where an Area of Concern crosses state boundaries, each state can submit two proposals for engineering and design. An endorsement letter from a RAP implementation group is still required.
